Since I have been linked to by an author who I admire, and who is giving me one of her books 'cuz I won her LJ raffle, I figure I should return the favor by doing two things:
1) updating for once since my last post was over a year ago
2) Pimp said author

Ladies & Gentlemen, Meet Seanan.

Her Fun-Blog is here:

Seanan is an amazing writer. I started reading her fanfic, and started buying her books when she published last year.
I strongly suggest you check her out, as well as her Cukoo-in-kind (or, other pen-name) Mira Grant.

Go buy her books, kids.

Stolen from boogergal...

Copy this sentence into your livejournal if you're in a heterosexual marriage, and you don't want it "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.

Well, I'm gonna be married soon... and I still agree.
But wait, there"s more!Collapse )</div></font></div>

Goin' to the rodeo...

Heading to Dallas today.
I'm really hoping these trainings aren't jinxed.

Wish me a safe, uneventful trip.

Working downtown...

I've worked in downtown Detroit for 8 years now.

I find that when everyone else is coming down for an event, I just want to flee back to my suburbs.

The Red Bull AIr Race could be watched from the other side of my office, but I didn't want to deal with the crowds over the weekend. I did get video of their practice runs, though.

I can hear the Wings parade, and the helecopters, and see them head off Woodward into Hart Plaza, but I'm just dreading dealing with the crowds when I go for lunch, and the traffic when I leave.

I'm also one of only three people in a 50+ office right now. It's my work's "day of community service".
But because we had a deadline, and my boss is out of the country and I just have more I need to get done here, I'm at work.
I will be taking a long lunch, though.

My Horoscope for today...

"It looks like you are going to meet your match today!
Someone pops onto the scene who has as much charm, as much intelligence, and as much wit as you do.
At first you might feel like your territory is being taken over, but if you give this person a shot you will stop seeing them as competition and start seeing them as one heck of a cool person.
There is room enough for both of you, so considering teaming up.
You two might have a wonderful future together."

My niece, Samantha Renee, was born today.
I hope she's twice the awesome I am.

World Tourin'

So I'm headed to Dallas for a week in June; any suggestions for things to do in the evenings while I'm there?

My Face, the Update

So, I had my surgery a week ago Monday.
It went fairly well; I have no memory of leaving the pre-op and woke groggy in recovery.
My Bro & the Fiancee both took care of me when I got home, survived what I am sure could only be described as half-rational explanations of "Make sure that is the antibiotic I can take", and got me resting fairly comfortably.

My packing was removed two days after surgery, and fortunately was not the Houdini-like endless handkerchief of gauze.
My nose was packed with high-absorbency gauze, and the removing of them I can only describe as the equivalent of having tampons plucked out from your nostrils.
I weaned myself off the "good" pain meds by Friday, and am now only taking Tylenol ('cuz it's the only other stuff I can take).

I had my splint removed Tuesday, think two ovals of plastic holding the inner walls of your nostrils being held in by a stitch. It didn't hurt or feel half as off as the packing removal. The doc said I'm healing nicely, draining nicely, and the sailine up the schnozz is working as it should.

I am authorized to return to work Monday, but limited to 40 hours. Taking it easy is a good idea.
The head overall feels like it did pre-surgery, much in the way of pressure in the sinuses.
The nose itself is sensitive at the tip; it feels like I bopped it against a door or something.
The runny nose & bloody mucous I could live without, but it's pretty equal to a bad cold without the other symptoms.
I am talking it easy, resting as ordered.

Thanks to all of you for your well wishes.

It's not just for condoms...

My co-worker has an issue with my description of why I'm taking meds.
The doctor prescribed pre-surgery antibiotics.

She asked what they were for.
Me: "He just prescribed them
She snickered, and I looked at her like, what.
She: "'Prophalactically' isn't a word, prophalactics are condoms."
Me: "Um, yes, condoms are a kind of prophalactic, but that's not the only use for that word. It's good for any form of preventative measure."
#3: "Guys, are you talking about sex? there are children here."

I think in the course of the whole conversation, I used the word "prophalactically" about eight times.
I want my silver dollar, dammit.

Your Brain... Let Me Fixes It

I know many of you haven't heard from me in a while; Work has been insane, and I'm barely keeping up.
I just wanted to let you all know I'm going in for some minor surgery on Monday, February 18.
My sinuses have been giving me problems for years now, so I'm going to have my Deviated Septum fixed, and my sinuses Hoovered out.
I just wanted to ask you to forward any good karma, prayers or happy thoughts my way the day of surgery.
I'll be out of it for a few days after, so the man will forward out a 'she's alive' update when he can.
I have a deviated septum.
Yes, it is proof that I am a deviant.
Hugs to you all,

'It's always best to be offended by things you haven't read. That way you keep your mind uncluttered by things that might change it.' - Neil Gaiman
